Diaper Wrestling

Bean has a new favorite activity! She thinks its the best thing in the world, I find it hilarious and annoying. Let me paint you a picture....

It's about 2pm, Bean's just woken up from her nap. The sun has moved enough so there isn't a direct beam warming the room, but there's still plenty of natural light. We cuddle on the couch, next to a pile of freshly laundered cloth diapers, for a few minutes to let her fully wake up. Once she starts babbling and/or meowing, I know it's time... Time for another round of diaper wrestling!

I lay my very mobile 14 month old on the floor, she lies there patiently waiting. This surprises me, I let my guard down. Big mistake! I plop a clean diaper on the floor right next to her booty, and then out of the corner of my eye I see it.. The evil smile rushes across my little bean's angelic face, and I know she's going to make a break for it. Before I can react, she's already stood up and started slowly backing away from me, still wearing her devilish grin. I knew as soon as I moved she would turn around and flee in amusement. I call her back, she giggles. I beckon her again, this time she laughs at me as if to say "Silly Momma, you know it's not going to be that easy." I have no other alternative, I get up and proceed to chase her as she screams with delight and scurries away. Thankfully, shes not a very fast toddler!

I succeed in capturing my prey in what I call a "love lock", very similar to a hug but it's what one uses to lovingly contain a rambunctious child. I tote her back to where the clean diaper is still chillaxin' on the floor and put her back down next to it. She lies there unmoving. I compare her to a land mine in my head, lying there unknown, waiting for something to touch her so she can explode with motion. I know my unmoving moments with her are limited. I pull her shorts off, and unsnap her diaper as fast as my fingers will allow. She's still lying there, like the little sweetheart she looks like. I hand her a wipe, and take one for myself. She pats herself dry while I do the real wiping, front to back, front to back. Then I say "butt up!" as I lift her tushie up by pulling her ankles towards the ceiling, a move that every parent knows well. As I slip the clean diaper under her cute tiny bottom, I hear "Ah hahaha!" and I know that this is where the diaper wrestling truly begins.

She flips, and flops, rolls and twists. All while I keep trying to get her back into position on her back, on the floor. A statue-esque moment occurs and I quickly try to hook on one side of the diaper around her. No luck! The dance continues... Giggles. Rolling. Laughter. Annoyance. She thinks it's the best thing in the world, time of her life! I am laughing because it's adorable and I love hearing her baby giggles. but good grief! I could've had five diapers on by now, and I don't even have one snap snapped together. It's time for drastic measures.

I start rolling around the floor with her to get the diaper on. She rolls, I flip. Snap! She kicks, I dodge. Snap! YES! One side is on, the hardest part is over. Usually the second side is faster to do since the diaper is being held in place by one chubby baby thigh. Oh no, shes on her hands and knees, this means she's going to run for it! I wrap an arm around her waist, she's screams with laughter and excitement from being caught. While she's strapped to my chest by my arm I quickly *snap, snap, sigh* and the diaper is finally all the way on. She laughs thinking she's won this wrestling match as she runs away without pants on.

But I know the truth: I won, Bean. I won.

  2. Mar I have been there with all the kiddies, I used to call it the diaper race, to see if I can get it on with them making a dash for it :-) I love her cloth diapers so cute!

  6. Haha, I know what you are going through as I too, diaper wrestle. I try everything with Drew. I used to be able to distract him with holding a toy. He is on to me now though and he could care less. He thinks he is a super slueth, but by God, I will get that diaper on him. It may not look pretty but his sweet little bum is covered :)

  7. This could be my son as well except that in addition to the rolling, twisting, and running away he likes to kick me as hard as he can while screaming, "Booommmmm." It is hilarious, but quite painful. Just stopping by from the Monday Mom Musings blog hop to say hi.

  8. Bahahaha. This is totally my current situation. My little girl can't walk, but she sure does a great job of rolling off of the clean diaper, twisting and kicking, pulling herself to her tummy and altogether making diapering extremely difficult. Thanks for linking up with Monday Mom Musings today.

  9. That's so funny. When my youngest son was in diapers he would do the same thing.

  11. This is so funny! Grayson is doing the exact same thing!! I find myself changing him up high on narrow tables and things so that he can't wiggle away! I'm so glad you linked up to the Mixer, friend! :)

  12. The idea of chemical free diapers was awesome. The diapers are really soft and cute as my daughter has allergies to most brands but I found these honest diaper best in use for my little baby.
