He the just of what the directions were, microwave bar soap so you can easily crumble it, then put it in a blender add small amounts of boiling water and blend until its a yogurty consistency. After that you just add food coloring, and voila! Bathtub paint. Easy, right?
Well, in all fairness it was easy. I microwaved my dove bar soap on a plate it malted all over the plate, so I decided to shove it in the fridge to cool. Yeah i am that impatient... Actually I'm more impatient than that because after a few minutes I put it into the freezer. So once it was cooled I then had to scrape the soap off and crumble it. The whole time I was doing this I kept thinking there has to be a better way and I'm pretty sure any other way would be a better way, like putting it on wax paper. Or maybe finding a different way to make it crumble, other than microwaving it. I also was thinking holy crap this is messy, I need to hide the evidence and clean up before my husband wakes up and finds this! in case you're wondering, I hide everything in a big bowl of soapy water, and he found it and just stared/glared at me. I meant to get to the dishes before him, it just didn't happen... Whoops!
Back to the point of this... I made it, it came out okay. It was chunky, and not how I imagined it to be. But it still did the trick. Too bad my little bean wasn't impressed with it. Apparently getting gooey gunk on her fingers isn't something she likes to do. She would grab the paint and just dunk her hand in the bath water and swish it around until all the paint came off. She rubbed it on the side of the tub, maybe twice. I'll try it again in a few more months to see if her opinion about it changes, and when I do I'll try a different "recipe" one that uses shaving cream instead of bar soap.
On a completely separate note, I hope everyone enjoyed their fourth of July! We did! Bean got all dressed up and once she got used to the festivities and noise level of where we were to watch fireworks, she loosened up and had a blast! We even went and danced to the band a little bit. Here's a picture of her outfit, her serious face is on because I took it right when we got there. She has her daddy's "death stare", as I call it, down perfectly!
