Love Songs and Attachment Parenting

I've been semi-obsessing over Taylor Swift's song "Ours". By semi-obsessing I mean it's been on repeat throughout my showers for the past few weeks. Yes, "Ours" has become my shower anthem. Well, more like my life anthem for right now. If you walked into my home unannounced you'll probably catch me dancing around with my bean, like we're in the dance off school party in the movie Grease, while singing the song very loudly. I'm that mom. Whatever, my daughter loves it! There's one verse that I'm exceptionally obsessed with:
Seems like there's always someone who disapproves
They'll judge it like they know about me and you
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do
The jury's out, my choice is you

I know she's talking about her love. But really, I can use that verse to describe most people I come across, and how I feel they are towards my family for choosing to be attached parents. Especially when they find out we bedshare! The fact is that people do judge my family, but they don't know us. They don't live here, so they have no room to make conclusions. They don't know what works best for our family, only we do. No one can know what's best for anyone else's family but their own.

Ever heard Eli Young Band "Crazy Girl"? I'm in love with the lead singers crooner voice!
Crazy girl, don't you know that I love you?
I wouldn't dream of going nowhere
Silly woman come here let me hold you
Have I told you lately I love you like crazy, girl?

I wouldn't last a single day
I'd probably just fade away
Without you I'd lose my mind

Before you ever came along
I was living life all wrong
The smartest thing I ever did was make you all mine

That always makes me teary and thinking of my bean. All I do is hold her, and tell her how much I love her and love being able to watch her grown, every day! I want to be here for her through everything, and I plan to be, the good lord willing. My natural instinct is to pick her up when she's upset. And when she's fussing or crying I pick her up and tell her how much I love her, every time. A little crazy I'm sure, but I just have to make sure she knows.

I'm sure there are plenty of other love songs out there that I could make this connection with. These were just the two that I've been hearing a lot recently. I wonder if I could connect a Justin Bieber song to attachment parenting, hmm...

On a completely different note.. We started doing baby sign language with Bean around 10 months, and the other day she signed 'please'! I almost died with excitement! Now she's enthusiastically signing 'please' for everything she wants, haha. It's seriously so friggin' adorable! She also has her sign for 'doggy/kitty' down and the first part of 'thank you' down also. She'll put her hand up to her mouth and sometimes pulls it away, but not 100% of the time yet, soon though I hope!

  2. Great post :) We've been doing baby-sign language too for a while and Hayden is reeeally starting to get it now {she's 15 months} She would do a couple words at first like "milk" {which I'm pretty sure she thought was synonymous with "mommy" haha} but I love how it helps them to be able to communicate!

Also, people will judge no matter how you choose to parent. There's no pleasing everyone, and of course you shouldn't try. Way to stick with what you know best :)
