Finger Paint LOVE Canvas

Oh my goodness y'all! I made Bean make me the BEST art canvas ever. Seriously, I'm head over heels in love with it. Head. Over. Heels. I stare at it constantly. When you see it, you're going to want to have your little one make you one too, or you'll want to make it yourself. It's that fantastic! I can't remember where I first saw this idea, or one similar to it. Honestly, it was probably on Pinterest. I borrow most of my amazing ideas from that spectacular site.

First, go buy some canvas, and washable paint. Any size, any colors you want. You'll also want to pick up some clear spray paint to seal it with. I grabbed UV protected Matte spray at my local Hobby Lobby, but you could grab the glossy finish if that's what you prefer. And grab some scotch tape, or painters tape. I think scotch would be better, but I'll explain why later on.

Holy hell, there is a HUGE storm going on outside. I'm not sure how Bean is managing to sleep through it!

You're going to use the tape to spell out any word you want. I wanted LOVE, cause that is the core to our family. Everything we do, we do in love. Put the tape down on your canvas, so you can see the word however you'd like. Backwards, diagonal, horizontal, whatever floats your goat.
Next you'll go somewhere you don't mind getting paint all over, like the garage or outside, and pour blobs of paint (in the colors you've chosen - as many as you'd like!) onto the canvas. I had to mix my paint colors a bit to get the shades I wanted. Then let your little nugget go to town! We stripped Bean down to her diaper, and went outside. I was planning on taking pictures of the mess but my husband and I both ended up covered from painted toddler hugs, so they didn't happen...
Now, I let the paint dry a little bit before removing my painters tape. The paint wasn't completely dry, and the adhesive didn't stick very well to the bumps in the canvas. Thus, the paint leaked into where the white, crisp, letters were supposed to be. That's why I think scotch tape my work better for this activity. To be honest though, I like how my "mistake" turned out. Our love isn't perfect, and neither is this one. But both are strong, and beautiful, and we cherish both of these 'loves' like priceless heirlooms, because to us they are priceless.

So there it is! Our little bean's first canvas painting. Once the paint is 100% dry spray paint the clear finish onto it to seal it, then wait for it to dry and Ta-Da! You're finished! We're going to hang ours above our bed, along with some confetti canvases I made.
I love it, absolutely love it.

  1. Such a great idea! I think the way the paint leaked makes it look perfectly imperfect and beautiful. Wouldn't change a thing :)
